Why "Taking Jesus Seriously"

The reason I wrote the “Taking Jesus Seriously” Series is because I want to help Christians better articulate why they believe what they believe and live the way they live.  Furthermore, I desire to create conversation around what it means to “Take Jesus Seriously” in an ever changing world where Christians should be more concerned with how others will understand us.  Last, I want to express the full array of my ministry which is an expression of doing the work necessary to insure the academy and the church are embodied in how I live.

Summary:  Taking Jesus Seriously Vol. 1

Taking Jesus Seriously: Messages for a Deeper Christian Life is a collection of essays, articles, and sermons with the purpose of helping Christians feel, think and live their faith in a deep way.  It's aim is to offer the reader a different perspective on what it means to live as a Christian in our age of sophisticated marketing and changes to the status of Christianity on the local, state and international stage in three parts:  1) Messages to the Mainstream; 2) Messages to the Mind; 3) Messages to Believers and those who wish to understand us better.  This book is an expression  of Rev. Richardson's belief that the Body of Christ makes the Christian possible.  To this end, Rev. Richardson wrote this book to promote conversation with other Christians, both clergy and laity, who love Jesus and want to learn what it really means to live in popular culture but not of popular culture by taking Jesus more seriously in every aspect of life.

Johnathan Richardson has decided to share a portion of his ministerial journey with us.  His book,Taking Jesus Seriously: Messages for a Deeper Christian Life, Vol. 1, will make us richer because of his openness and sincere approach to critical issues in our faith.  He is one of a new group of young ministers who effectively combined practical applications and theological theory. We look for great things from him and his ministry.

The progression of Rev. Johnathan Carlton Richardson's walk with Christ has been fascinating to watch. He's thought long and hard about the faith to which he has committed himself: student, teacher, scholar, preacher, now writer. With the publication of Taking Jesus Seriously: Messages for a deeper Christian Life, we have the benefit of reading what he's thinking, preaching, and living.

Rev. Richardson gives us all a running testament to his journey following Jesus.

His story reflected in these writings reminds each of us that following the Lord will almost always take us where they would rather not go. But, in going, all those who are watching will be inspired, encouraged, and evangelized. Most importantly, they will be given courage for their following.

Thoughtful preachers give voice to God's activity in the world.  Jonathan Richardson is among these attentive heralds of the gospel. This collection of sermons, essays, and articles shows a preacher dusting history, theology, and popular culture in search of divine fingerprints.  I think he has found something.
